Terrapin’s Bill Browning will speak about the benefits of designing with biophilia at the Straight Talk forum “Biophilia in the Built Environment” hosted by Glumac. The forum will consist of three events held in Seattle (7/29), Los Angeles (7/30), and San Francisco (7/31). Bill will be joined by Susan Painter, a senior planner and research studio director at AC Martin, Bert Gregory, the chairman and CEO of Mithun, and Gail Brager, the associate director of the Center for the Built Environment at UC Berkeley.

The forum focuses on the need to incorporate biophilic thinking and design into the built environment. Research increasingly shows the benefits of being closer to nature and bringing natural elements into our homes, hospitals, workplaces, and cities. Biophilia has been linked to reduced stress, increased productivity, improved learning and faster healing rates. Glumac, an engineering consulting firm with a focus on sustainability, shares Terrapin’s interest in this emerging field, especially because of its aim to strengthen human-nature relationships and economic potential.
