Terrapin Bright Green is pleased to announce we are officially a Certified B Corporation®, joining the ranks of over 1,700 Certified B Corporations from more than 130 industries in nearly 50 countries with 1 unifying goal – to redefine success in business. Certified B Corporations meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. The performance standards B Corps™ meet are comprehensive, transparent, and verified. They measure a company’s impact on all its stakeholders (e.g. workers, suppliers, community, customers, and the environment). Unlike traditional corporations, Certified B Corporations are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions not only on their shareholders, but also on their stakeholders.

Becoming a B Corp was important to the firm to verify the impact we have, both externally through our work and internally on our team. Since its founding, Terrapin has strived to achieve positive environmental and social change through our work, and this is only possible through maintaining a nurturing culture for our talented, dedicated team of professionals. Earlier this year, Terrapin was named a 2015 Best for NYC Honoree in the Workers category. Our full B Impact assessment confirms these commitments, with Terrapin achieving an overall score of 90 (the median score is 55).

Our partner Chris Garvin, had this to say about Terrapin’s decision to pursue Certified B Corporation status:

“We approach running the firm as a design challenge. Therefore, it’s a holistic effort where all of the demands and goals must be balanced with the constraints and limitations of the marketplace. Most of our initial efforts were intuitive to developing the firm culture. The Best for NYC competition and the Certified B Corporation effort really solidified how well we’re doing and how we can continue to improve. I see B Corp as LEED for business, a measuring and diagnostic tool. I’m proud to say that it was the team who made this happen – from conversations and requests at team retreats to Rebecca’s efforts to gather and record all of the data.”
